Happy birthday Michael Dorn!

Michael Dorn (photo ©Gage Skidmore) was born on December 9, 1952, in Luling, Texas.

Michael Dorn studied radio and television production at the Pasadena City College. Later, he started a career as a musician working in San Francisco and Los Angeles but in the ’70s he started working as an extra in several movies, some famous such as “Rocky” in 1976.

Slowly, Michael Dorn started getting roles in movies but also TV up to joining the cast of the series “CHiPs” and later he worked in soap operas, in particular “Days of Our Lives”.

The role for which Michael Dorn is most famous came in 1987, when he was cast as Worf in the series “Star Trek: The Next Generation“. For this character a back story was created but not his personality and the actor developed a lot of him on his own.

In 1991, Michael Dorn was cast for the movie “Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country”, in which he played a character named Worf but not the “Star Trek: The Next Generation” one. It’s never mentioned on screen but that character is the grandfather of the “Star Trek: The Next Generation” Worf.

After the end of “Star Trek: The Next Generation”, Michael Dorn played Worf again in the movies “Star Trek Generations” (1994), “Star Trek: First Contact ” (1996) “Star Trek: Insurrection” (1998), and “Star Trek: Nemesis” (2002).

In 1995, Michael Dorn became a regular in the TV show “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine”, where he played Worf for four more seasons.

Michael Dorn has also worked in animated series such as “Justice League” and “Justice League Unlimited”, lent his voice to several videogames, some of which connected to Star Trek, and was spokesperson for the advertising of various types of products.

Michael Dorn is a fan of airplanes and is a pilot. He owned several planes including a T-33 Shooting Star and a F-86 Sabre. He’s also a member of the “Air Force Aviation Heritage Foundation” and the “Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA)”. None of his aircraft is the Enterprise but for him they’re great!
