Eugenie Bouchard reached the final by defeating Daniela Hantuchova, Silvia Soler-Espinosa, Andrea Petkovic, Alize Cornet, Angelique Kerber and Simona Halep. So far she has not no sets. This is her first final in a Grand Slam tournament.
After the first two games in which both players win their service games easily, Petra Kvitova finds the measure of her return and in the third game breaks Eugenie Bouchard. The Canadian tries to react but at the end of a tough fourth game the Czech wins her service game and in the next game has a total of three break points but Bouchard saves them to win her service game. In the seventh game, the Czech breaks her opponent again to take a 5-2 lead, serves for the set gets broken. It’s just a little delay because in the next game Kvitova breaks Bouchard another time and wins the first set 6-3.
The second set is the continuation of the first, with Petra Kvitova very aggressive with her return. Eugenie Bouchard is under pressure so struggle with her service and suffers the Czech’s returns. Kvitova is dominant and the set turns into a monologue in which she leaves almost nothing to her opponent winning it 6-0 to conquer the match and her second Wimbledon title.
Eugenie Bouchard reached the Wimbledon final two years after winning the junior title. She always has a very positive attitude because she seeks to win points rather than waiting, hoping for her opponent’s mistakes and she has a lot of self-confidence. Today, all this wasn’t enough but the Canadian is very young and still has a lot of room for improvement so we can expect to see her in other Grand Slam finals.
Petra Kvitova already knew how to win Wimbledon and today showed all her talent and all her experience playing a very high level final. Her service is considered among the best around while her returned is often overlooked but today it was decisive. After a long time in which she seemed to struggle to return to the levels of 2011, the Czech seems to have found a good shape both physically and mentally. If this is the case, she may be the player to beat in any tournament.
