This week IBM announced the birth of a new business unit based on its cognitive computing system Watson. It’s called IBM Cognitive Business Solutions and intends to leverage this intelligence artificial to provide business consulting. The term cognitive business represents according to the company an application in this field of Watson, which becomes a kind of digital assistant that can provide suggestions based on the analysis of massive amounts of data.

A few months ago, IBM opened the Watson Health business unit to develop applications of its cognitive computing system in the medical field. With IBM Cognitive Business Solutions, the company intends to use the training received by Watson examining more than 50,000 real cases and the expertise of thousands of professionals around the world to help business to grow.

Stephen Pratt, designated by IBM as a global leader of Cognitive Business Solutions, was hired by the company in recent months exactly to work on the Watson project. Pratt stated that in a short time we’ll look back and wonder how we took important decisions or discovered new opportunities without having learned systematically from all available data. The sense of this new application of the IBM Watson system is exactly to make this analysis on behalf of clients.

Stephen Pratt stated that over the next decade this type of transformation will be very personal for professionals with the adoption of algorithms that increase our capacity. For clients, cognitive systems will allow organizations that adopt them to outperform their peers.

The bottom line is always the same as the other applications of IBM Watson: this cognitive computing system can be trained to recognize the significant data to provide suggestions to clients. Watson can analyze huge amounts of data very quickly and this allows it to make assessments more complete than even the most experienced professionals.

IBM intends to train thousands of consultants who can work with the Watson system to make the most of working with its clients. It’s important for the company to be able to best understand its clients’ needs to provide them with customized solutions and for that human contact is still needed. IBM keeps on investing in applications of its Watson system so we can expect to see it involved in a growing amount of jobs.
