Luis Alvarez celebrate the Nobel Prize for Physics

Physicist Luis Walter Alvarez was born on June 13, 1911 in San Francisco, California. His research concerned radioactive elements but also radars. For his dvelopments theoretical and practical concerning research on particles he received the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1968. During the last years of his life he worked with his son Walter Alvarez on the theory of the extinction of the dinosaurs due to an asteroid strike.

Dirk Nowitzki was elected MVP of the NBA Finals 2011

The Dallas Mavericks won the NBA title 2011 defeating the Miami Heat 4-2 in the Finals. Dirk Nowitzki was elected MVP of the final series. For Dallas it’s the first title and the revenge for the Finals lost to the Miami Heat in 2006.

WWW: Wake by Robert J. Sawyer

The novel “WWW: Wake” by Robert J. Sawyer was published for the first time in the magazine “Analog” between November 2008 and March 2009 and as a book in 2009. It’s the first volume of the WWW trilogy and it was a finalist at the 2010 Hugo Award in the best novel of the year category.

Ex basketball player Mike Mitchell passed away after a long illness. He played in the NBA with the Cleveland Cavaliers and the San Antonio Spurs, in Israel with Maccabi Tel Aviv and in various Italian teams, particularly in Reggio Emilia.

Accoring to a research made by an international team of scientists Mars small size might be the result of Jupiter moving towards the Sun while it was forming, which might have absorbed part of the matter present in the orbit of what then coalesced into the red planet.
