The novel “Gather, Darkness!” by Fritz Leiber was published for the first time in 1943 in the magazine Astounding. It’s set at the beginning of the XXIV century in a theocracy that took power on the Earth and the space colonies after a terrible nuclear war which took place a few centuries earlier. Humanity is ruled by the Hierarchy of the Great God, whose priests exploit religious beliefs to keep ordinary people in a state of ignorance and submission.
The novel “Cauldron” by Jack McDevitt was published for the first time in 2007. This is the sixth novel in a series set in the XXIII century starring the space pilot Priscilla “Hutch” Hutchins. The other novels in the series are: “The Engines of God” (1995), “Deepsix” (2001), “Chindi” (2002), “Omega” (2003) and “Odyssey” (2006). “Cauldron” was a finalist for the Nebula Award for best novel.
“Man of Earth” is a novel by Algis Budrys published for the first time in 1958. It starts in 2197 on an Earth more and more closed in on itself. After a period of expansion in the solar system in which colonies were set up on Venus and Pluto the earthlings’ laziness had encouraged the mother planet’s inhabitants to leave the settlers on their own.
“Conjure Wife” was the first novel written by Fritz Leiber. Published for the first time in in the April 1943 issue of the magazine “Unknown” it was published in a revised and expanded edition as a book for the first time in 1953.
“The Ultimate Foe”is the fourth and last adventure of the twenty-third season, known by the global title “The Trial of a Time Lord”. which aired in 1986. “The Ultimate Foe” has the parts that go from thirteenth to fourteenth of this season followeing “Terror of the Vervoids” and it’s a two parts adventure written in part by Robert Holmes and in part by Pip and Jane Baker and directed by Chris Clough.
