Samantha Stosur at the U.S. Open 2009

Samantha Stosur won the tennis U.S. Open defeating Serena Williams in the final 6-2 6-3. It was a surprise win but the American wasn’t precise with her shots while the Australian played near perfection so she deserved to win.

The two twin spacecraft that make up the GRAIL (Gravity Recovery and Interior Laboratory) took off on a Delta II launch vehicle. The GRAIL mission aims to map the structure of the lunar crust and lithosphere to understand how it evolved.

News arrived of the death of Michael S. Hart, the founder of Project Gutenberg. He fought to encourage the creation and distribution of books in electronic format, to eliminate ignorance and illiteracy and to provide as many books in electronic form to as many people as possible.

Yahoo! has fired Carol Bartz and Chief Financial Officer Tim Morse was named interim CEO. The terse message to her staff says: “I am very sad to tell you that I’ve just been fired over the phone by Yahoo’s Chairman of the Board. It has been my pleasure to work with all of you and I wish you only the best going forward.”.
