
News arrived of the death of English actress Mary Tamm.
Mary Tamm was born on March 22, 1950 in Dewsbury, West Riding of Yorkshire, from a family of Estonian origin.
After graduating from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, Mary Tamm started acting on stage in 1971 in Birmingham before moving to London in 1972. There, she starte having cinema roles in films such as “The Odessa File” in 1974 and “The Likely Lads” in 1976 but also on TV, such as in the show “Return of the Saint”.
In 1978, Mary Tamm became the Time Lady Romana in “Doctor Who”, where she remained for the season known as “The Key to Time”, composed of the adventures: “The Ribos Operation“, “The Pirate Planet“, “The Stones of Blood“, “The Androids of Tara” in which she plays a number of Romana’s doppelgangers, “The Power of Kroll” and “The Armageddon Factor“.
Mary Tamm agreed to work in “Doctor Who” because Romans belonged to the same species as the Doctor so she was supposed to be his equal but during the season she realized that she had become a traditional assistant that couldn’t be developed beyond that role.
After that experience, Mary Tamm had roles in various films and especially in many television productions of various kinds. However, she reprized the role of Romana in a bumber of Big Finish audio productions such as the series “The Companion Chronicle” and together with Tom Baker in the series “The Fourth Doctor Adventures”, which will be published next year.
In 2009, Mary Tamm published the first volume of her autobiography titled “First Generation”. She was writing a second volume.
In 1978, Mary Tamm married Marcus Ringrose. Together, they had a daughter and a grandson.
For about 18 months, Mary Tamm had been suffering from cancer this morning she died. This very sad news spread out very quickly and many messages of sympathy arrived from a lot of her colleagues, many related to “Doctor Who”, showing how much she was loved.
