A skull found in the site known as Sima de los Huesos

A team of scientists led by Dr. Svante Pääbo of the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig, Germany, has almost completely sequenced the mitochondrial DNA taken from a femur of a hominid who lived about 400,000 years ago. It’s the oldest hominid DNA sequenced so far and gave unexpected results, revealing a genetic connection with the Denisova, a population of hominids still poorly known.

The hexagon shaped hurricane that occupies the entire north pole of Saturn has fascinated astronomers since it was discovered during the Voyager missions in the early ’80s. About a year ago, the Cassini spacecraft passed above it and, thanks to a favorable sunlight, it was able to take high resolution pictures of this peculiar weather phenomenon. Now NASA has released these photos during a Google+ hangout that had purpose to present them.

The BrahMos 3 cruise missile is the successor of BrahMos II missile which is capable of engaging targets in unreachable mountain terrains. It was successfully tested by the Indian Army on November 18, 2013 at the Pokhran field, Rajasthan. The launch was carried out entirely by the Indian army.

A few hours ago the new version of SpaceX rocket Falcon 9 successfully placed into geostationary orbit a communications satellite. Launched from the Space Launch Complex 40 (SLC -40) at Cape Canaveral, the Falcon 9 version 1.1 passed a key test for commercial launch contracts and the second of three certifications necessary to carry out flight missions for the U.S. Air Force.
