A kind of solar tsunami hit the Voyager 1 space probe in March this year, a wave of plasma emitted by the Sun that rings like a bell. An instrument of the probe allows to measure the frequency of the sounds produced by these waves, a truly unique music in the interstellar space reached by Voyager 1.

Fantastic Voyage by Isaac Asimov (Italian edition)

The novel “Fantastic Voyage” by Isaac Asimov was published for the first time in 1966.

Jan Benes is a scientist who has discovered a way to miniaturize matter for an indefinite time. Thank to agent Charles Grant, Benes manages to escape to the West but on his arrival he gets wounded in an assassination attempt by Soviet agents ready to die in order to prevent the USA from discovering how to improve miniaturization technology.

A quick medical examination shows that a blood clot in the brain is going to kill Jan Benes. The only hope to save him is to miniaturize a submarine and insert it into the scientist’s circulatory system so it can travel up to the clot and destroy it with a laser. The problem is that the miniaturization technology available to the USA allows to maintain that state for an hour and within the group sent to that mission there might be a spy.

The two Kuiper Belt Objects found by the Hubble Space Telescope showed through their movements (Image NASA, ESA, SwRI, JHU/APL, New Horizons KBO Search Team)

Despite being more than 24 years old, the Hubble Space Telescope keeps on proving it’s a truly remarkable instrument. In June, a test of observations was performed to search for celestial bodies in the Kuiper Belt, the region of the solar system beyond the orbits of the planets. This preliminary research has been a success because in the 20 areas observed for a total of 200 images two Kuiper Belt Objects (KBO) were found, two tiny planets, but their classification is to be determined, distant about 6.4 billion kilometers (about 4 billion miles) from Earth.
