The novel “Rejuvenation Book 3” by Byddi Lee was published for the first time in 2020. It’s the third book in the Rejuvenation trilogy and follows “Rejuvenation Book 2“.

Bobbie Chan and his group are hunted down and hiding from government forces becomes increasingly difficult. Despite that, the resistance movement can’t stand by and watch people who have been rejuvenated and become mentally unstable being used as soldiers.

To have any hope of victory, vital information is needed to fully understand rejuvenation and its side effects. However, to find them, someone has to infiltrate the heart of the Belus government / company with all the risks and difficulties involved.

This final book of the Rejuvenation trilogy focuses on the final confrontation that will determine the future of humanity. This is the last part of a single great story divided into three books that must all be read to get to know the characters and the events that led to this clash.

The first two books offered a fast-paced story full of twists. The story of Bobbie Chan, a geriatrician who is faced with an unprecedented situation when her elderly patients start rejuvenating, is central to events that soon turn out to be much bigger than her. It’s also her personal story with twists that in the first two books are also linked to family and friends while this final book is much more about the great story around rejuvenation and that future.

The final showdown is also used by Byddi Lee to show who Lisette Fox is, the government / company leader who came to power as the savior of humanity from an alien invasion attempt that devastated the Earth. The author left these developments for the end because revealing the motives behind Fox’s actions means revealing some crucial secrets regarding her rise to power and what lies behind the rejuvenation.

What emerges is a Lisette Fox who appears to believe herself in her own propaganda. Even when her enemies discover the secrets she tried most to keep hidden, she continues to claim that she acted for the good of humanity. Power and propaganda are not the trilogy’s main themes but above all, in this ending, there’s some food for thought on them.

The propaganda theme is also part of Bobbie Chan’s personal story, central to the trilogy. She wasn’t planning to become a rebel but she found herself in the midst of the problem of the elderly who started rejuvenating. Her determination to understand what was going on and her honesty led her to investigate beyond official statements from the government. The end of the trilogy also represents the conclusion of her path started thanks to a new awareness regarding the society in which she lives.

I didn’t like some of the twists and turns in the trilogy, including a major one from this final book. In some cases, they’re the consequence of the choice to keep Bobbie Chan’s family central to the story. Those are personal assessments but in the end, I must say that the story has its own internal consistency, so these elements work as well. Overall, the Rejuvenation trilogy offers a story full of action and surprises that at the same time offers some food for thought in three books that are not very long. If you’re interested in the trilogy’s themes, I recommend reading it.
