The news of the moment on the Internet and not only is the fact that Facebook replaced the e-mail configured by its users with the domain address belonging to Facebook, meaning an address such as username@facebook.com.
Facebook launched its e-mail addresses at the end of 2010 creating an integrated messaging system. However, it seems that few people used Facebook’s e-mail address so Mark Zuckerberg’s social network basically imposed it to its users.
Luckily, you can change that address restoring your old one or anyway configuring the one you prefer: you just need to enter your Facebook profile, enter the About section and change your contact information.
Actually, this change made by Facebook already started a few weeks ago but a lot of users didn’t notice it. Only this week the case exploded not only on Facebook but on social media in general and then many articles have been popping up on sites specialized and even on normal newspapers.

The surprised and often angry reaction by Facebook user provoked a reaction of surprise from the Facebook’s executives. Meredith Chin, Facebook’s manager of product communications, stated that the social network has changed its users’ e-mails to keep them consistent for everybody. Chin also mentioned a press release already issued in April to announce this change.
Indeed, the press release of Facebook exists but how many users were aware of its existence? Had anyone received a warning about this change? The statement refers to a consistence of the e-mail addresses across Facebook site, but consistent with what? Mark Zuckerberg’s wishes?
Facebook launched its e-mail to create an integrated messaging system that included e-mails, SMS and Facebook’s internal messages. Because its launch was essentially a failure, Facebook executives have seen fit to try to impose their address.
This is the kind of move that angers Facebook’s users because once again someone has chosen for them. Although it’s the social network with greatest number of users in the world its executives should be careful because in the world of technology things can change even in a short time.
