Justine Henin has announced her retirement from professional activity because of persistent problems with the elbow she injured last year at Wimbledon.

Francesca Schiavone won her eighth final (or Last 16 round if you prefer) at the Australian Open defeating Russian player Svetlana Kuznetsova 6-4 1-6 16-14 after nearly five hours of intense battle. This is the longest women match in a Grand Slam tournament during the Open era.
