The New England Patriots finished their regular season with a 13-3 record. In the playoffs they defeated the Denver Broncos in the Divisional round and the Baltimore Ravens in the Championship round. They were the no. 1 seed in the AFC so they were the favorite to represent their Conference in the Super Bowl.

The New York Giants finished their regular season with a 9-7 record. In the playoffs they defeated the Atlanta Falcons in the Wild Card round, the Green Bay Packers in the Divisional round, and the San Francisco 49ers in the Championship round. Though they won the NFC East division it was a bit of a surprise that they reached the Super Bowl because they played only the Wild Card round in their home field while they played the other round abroad.

The New York Giants receive the kick off and quickly reach field goal range but the New England Patriots defense push them back with them two sacks. The Giants are forced to punt but the first Patriots offense is a disaster. In the first play, Tom Brady attempts a deep pass but can find no receivers. The officials talk to each other and establish that it’s a penalty for intentional grounding but Brady was in his end zone so that a safety that gives the first 2 points of this Super Bowl to the Giants. New York has the ball again and manages to score a touch down with an Eli Manning pass to Victor Cruz which after the conversion gives them a 9-0 lead.

In the second quarter the New England Patriots have the ball and only manage to score a field goal from 29 yards, bringing the score to 9-3. The following drives end with a punt for both teams until the last drive of the half, when Tom Brady leads his team for 96 yards to score a touch down with a pass to Danny Woodhead and after the conversion gives them a 10-9 lead.

The third quarter starts well for the New England Patriots because their opening drive ends again with a touch down thanks to a Tom Brady pass to Aaron Hernandez that after the conversion gives the Patriots a 17-9 lead. The New York Giants can resond only with two field goals from 38 and 33 yards and end the quarter with a Patriots 17-15 lead.

The fourth quarter opens with an interception by Chase Blackburn for the New York Giants. The following drives however end with a punt for both teams but when there’s less than a minute on the Super Bowl clock the Giants score a touch down with a run by Ahmad Bradshaw. The Giants seek a two point conversion but they miss it so they have a 21-17 lead. In the last minute the New England Patriots try to score the winning touch down but the time expires so the New York Giants are the Super Bowl XLVI winners.

Peyton Manning plays in Indianapolis but it was his brother who won the Super Bowl again and again over the New England Patriots. Like in Super Bowl XLII, the Giants won scoring a touch down near the end of the game and Eli Manning (photo ©Ted Kerwin) was elected MVP. This time the drive for the last touch down didn’t include a circus play like the four years ago pass by Eli Manning to David Tyree, still it was exciting.

In a Super Bowl in which literally space technologies were used, the New York Giants confirmed they’re a playoff literally. After a season of ups and downs, a defense that had injury problems has contributed greatly to decisive victories at the end of the regular season and in the playoffs. Obviously, the offense led by Eli Manning has done what was needed even without dominating and eventually the New England Patriots were disappointed again at the end of the Super Bowl while in New York it’s party time again.
