Kim Dotcom, the controversial man at the center of an international intrigue that has more the flavor of espionage than that of copyright infringement, announced that he resigned as director of Mega, the encrypted and distributed file hosting service he opened in January 2013. His purpose is to follow the legal case of the old Megaupload and Megavideo and prepare for the opening of the new music service for now called Megabox but also to follow a new career in politics in New Zealand.

You can say many things about Kim Dotcom but you have to admit that he knows how to be in the spotlight. Not content with his enterprises at the edge of the law and according to the authorities of many countries well beyond legality, in recent days he announced plans to enter politics. His plan is to create a new political party and as its leader he wants to run for the election to be held in New Zealand at the end of 2014.

Apparently, Kim Dotcom might run for office despite not being a New Zealand citizen as a leader of a political party. In order to enter the parliament his party should get at least 5% of the votes. The news of this intention was to remain secret but someone revealed it. A spy of some government or one of the many Kim Dotcom’s publicity ideas?

Obviously, these plans may be developed if Kim Dotcom avoids being extradited to the U.S.A. to face the charges related to his management of Megaupload and Megavideo. The extradition hearing is scheduled for November 2013 but it may be delayed because the case is very complex, also because of the violations that occurred by the U.S.A. and New Zealand authorities.

Probably, the next move of Kim Dotcom will be to open the music service of which we’ll know the final name later. The name Megabox was discarded and it was announced that it will be run by a company separate from Mega but still owned by Dotcom himself.

In the picturesque career of Kim Dotcom nothing is certain so don’t be surprised if there will be other surprises. Surely there will be new twists, both in his legal affairs and in his business.
