Played by Paul McGann, the Eighth Doctor initially suffers from amnesia as a result of the anesthetics the Seventh Doctor was given in the hospital in which he was brought after being shot when he got involved in a gang war. The regeneration is delayed and it takes a while for him to get his memory back.

Played by Sylvester McCoy, the Seventh Doctor initially suffers from amnesia because the Tardis was attacked by the Rani, a renegade Time Lady, who drugs him immediately after the Sixth Doctor has regenerated. Although he recovers, his personality takes time to form in a definitive manner, so much that he goes through big changes during a rather long period.

Played by Colin Baker, the Sixth Doctor is the result of another complicated regeneration. The Fifth Doctor “died” wondering if he could regenerate and the result is initially mentally unstable. Immediately he starts mistreating Peri and before recovering a some rationality he even tries to strangle her.
