In a letter to Sports Illustrated, LeBron James (photo ©Keith Allison) announced his return to the Cleveland Cavaliers. After four seasons with the Miami Heat with as many finals and two NBA titles won, he decided to return to what basically considers his home. This despite the controversy caused in 2010 by “The Decision”, the television special in which he announced that he was leaving the Cavaliers for the Heat.

LeBron James explained that he went to the Miami Heat to play with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh. In 2010, he was considered a spoiled brat way not exactly classy he chose for the announcement. Let’s rememebr that at the time he had won nothing. In these four years, the Miami Heat have been subjected to enormous pressure from criticism and expectations and managed to win two NBA titles.

A change was in the air and LeBron James’ return to the Cleveland Cavaliers is a decision that goes beyond basketball. He was born and raised in Akron, Ohio, not far from Cleveland. The disappointment of the city when he went to Miami was hard to bear but it was his choice.

Dan Gilbert, the Cleveland Cavaliers’ owner, had very harsh words for LeBron James after “The Decision”. The two of them met a few days ago and apparently reached an agreement that led to the return of the Chosen One to his home. Evidently, this time James told Gilbert his decision in advance because the team seemed prepared to give him a new contract.

In recent days, the Cleveland Cavaliers were involved in a complex trade in which they sent Jarrett Jack and Sergey Karasev to the Brooklyn Nets. The Boston Celtics were also part of the trade and Cleveland eventually received a future second pick at the draft and the rights for three players picked by Brooklyn. It was clearly a ploy to free up space in the salary cap and to be able to offer LeBron James a four-year $85 million contract, the maximum possible.

LeBron James finds at the Cleveland Cavaliers a team with great potential. Kyrie Irving just signed a new five-year contract, the draft brought the first overall pick Andrew Wiggins and there are other interesting players. James finished his letter to Sports Illustrated claiming he’s ready to accept a new challenge. By now he’s supposed to be accustomed to the pressure but his opponents certainly will be ready for him as well.
