A fundraising campaign was just completed on Kickstarter site for two more episodes of “Star Trek Continues”, the web series that continues the adventures of the classic “Star Trek” series. They needed $100,000 to continue the project, they collected $214.584 and this will also allow to create new sets for the engineering section of the Enterprise and for a planet to be included in one of the episodes.

“Star Trek Continues” is a non-profit production and for this reason authorized by CBS, which owns the rights to the famous saga. The purpose of this web series is to tell the last two years of the Enterprise five-year mission, a continuation of the original series. It was developed by Vic Mignogna, who also plays Captain Kirk.

So far, they produced three episodes of “Star Trek Continues”, available for streaming on the project’s website. The funding was obtained in part with a first fundraising campaign on Kickstarter. For this reason, the second campaign that just ended was called Star Trek Continues 2015 “Kirkstarter 2.0”.

In “Star Trek Continues”, the Enterprise sets, the costumes, the music and everything else reproduces with great fidelity those of the original series. It’s not just a superficial copy because there’s also a great deal of attention in the thematic choices of the episodes. The intention from the beginning was to produce episodes really worthy of Star Trek with quality scripts.

“Pilgrim of Eternity” is a sequel to the original series episode “Who Mourns for Adonais?” with Michael Forest reprising the role of Apollo. “Lolani” is the story of a Orion slave which poses difficult moral questions in the best Star Trek tradition. “Fairest of Them All” is a sequel to the original series episodeĀ  “Mirror, Mirror”.

“Star Trek Continues” achieved considerable critical acclaim and some awards in festivals devoted to science fiction, web series or television in general. It also received an endorsement by Eugene “Rod” Roddenberry, son of Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry, after watching the third episode produced so far.

Personally, I was hit in a very positive way by the episodes produced so far because “Star Trek Continues” resumes the original Star Trek series not only in its form but also in its contents. For this reason, I look forward to seeing the new episodes put online!
