This week Google+ has launched a new section of its social network, Collections, that allow users to gather their posts about a topic or that they want to put together anyway. This allows users to organize their post according to their preferences but also others to follow only part of the certain user’s posts.

Many people who don’t know Google+ still insist in considering it a Facebook clone despite the differences between the two social networks. In the creation of Collections, Google seems to have been inspired to Pinterest so if you’re already using it you should have no trouble using this new section of Google+.

The Collections section is available in the main menu of Google+, just above the Communities section. In the mobile version, it should already be active for Android users. The support for iOS users should arrive later though no precise dates were announced.

This news is part of the ongoing changes in Google+ together with the announced split of Photos, Streams and Hangouts. The Collections section should give the social network even greater flexibility by allowing users to manage their post in the usual way or Pinterest-style. However, Pinterest is image-oriented while in Google+ Collections you can share just text or another of the post types.

Personally, I immediately created some Collections for my blogs. However, as I’ve already been using Pinterest for some time I have some ideas to create more Collections about various topics. Probably it will still take a little to achieve an optimal situation exactly because the two social networks are different.

The creation of Collections can give users the chance to better organize their own posts and to businesses on Google+ to use them to give their products and services higher visibility. The ability to share entire Collections is a new opportunity to use this social network.
