News arrived of the death of Michael S. Hart, the founder of Project Gutenberg. He fought to encourage the creation and distribution of books in electronic format, to eliminate ignorance and illiteracy and to provide as many books in electronic form to as many people as possible.

Yahoo! has fired Carol Bartz and Chief Financial Officer Tim Morse was named interim CEO. The terse message to her staff says: “I am very sad to tell you that I’ve just been fired over the phone by Yahoo’s Chairman of the Board. It has been my pleasure to work with all of you and I wish you only the best going forward.”.

The story began in July when DigiNotar, a Dutch certificate authority, identified an intrusion into their systems with an SSL certificate being compromised. As the days passed the investigation has unearthed a very worrying situation finding that the SSL certificates stolen are more than five hundred.

Google confirmed that it bought over a thousand patents from IBM but details were not revealed. Some sources report that the patents bought are 1,029, according to other sources they’re 1,030, either way the amount paid by Google wasn’t disclosed. The important fact is that the acquired patents cover technologies related to hardware and in particular the production of microprocessors and memories but also Internet-related technologies.
