The fund raising for the production of a “Veronica Mars” moive through the crowd-funding site Kickstarter started on March 13, 2013 with the goal of reaching $2 millions. The success was extraordinary and that figure was exceeded in less than 24 hours. Right now the amount raised is $3,837,584 and there’s time until April 12, 2013 to donate at least $10 to the project.

“Veronica Mars” was a TV show that lasted for three seasons aired between September 2004 and May 2007. Though there were some teenagers among its protagonists, the story offered a sophisticated mix of drama with comedy elements to tell the investigations of the young detective Veronica Mars. The series was set in Neptune, a town small but full of mysteries and the brilliant screenplays had earned it a loyal audience and critical praises.

Rob Thomas, “Veronica Mars” creator, wanted to produce a movie to conclude the stories left unresolved at the end of the show but had never been able to get the funding. Recently, however, he discovered the existence of Kickstarter and decided try the way of crowd-funding, which means asking the fans to directly give money to the project. Warner Bros., which owns the rights to “Veronica Mars”, has given permission for the project, therefore, Thomas had only to see if after almost six years the fans were still interested enough.

The Kickstarter page dedicated to the project shows its presentation, a message by Rob Thomas and one by Kristen Bell, who played Veronica Mars in the show, together with a video that includes him, Kristen Bell and some other actors who worked in it: Enrico Colantoni, Jason Dohring and Ryan Hansen. Together, they haveĀ  presented the fundraising for the film with some humor.

You can make an offer of at least $10 but bigger pledges gave you the chance to have something special in return, from t-shirts of the movie to a small part as an actor for the person who has donated at least $10,000. This initiative has shown all the love of “Veronica Mars” fans because there was a limited amount of pledges for the categories above $400 and right now only one of them is still available for the category of $5,000 or more.

Obviously, the more money will be offered for the movie the higher production values. On the Kickstarter page dedicated to the project, Rob Thomas jokes that with $10 million they could have even a Hobbit. He even mentions the possibility that Warner Bros. decides that there might be a sequel but obviously at the moment that’s just a wish for Thomas and all “Veronica Mars” fans.

Keeping to the facts, this fundraising is already a great success and the movie should start its production stage this summer to be released in early 2014. We look forward to this movie but also other initiatives of this kind because there are other series canceled in recent years that still have a strong base of loyal fans ready to offer money to see the production of new stories.
