Yesterday the great actor Robin Williams (photo ©Eva Rinaldi) passed away. Right now there is no official statement on the cause of death but there is a strong suspicion that he committed suicide.

Robin McLaurin Williams was born on July 21, 1951 in Chicago, Illinois, USA. During his studies at the faculty of political science at Claremont Men’s College, he became interested in theater, left the university and enrolled at the Juilliard School in New York to study acting.

After acting in theater for a few years and some roles in television and cinema productions, Robin Williams was cast as the alien Mork in the TV series “Happy Days”. His performance with his strange sense of humor made ​​him so popular that the TV show “Mork & Mindy” was produced and aired between 1978 and 1982, which brought him great success.

In 1978, Robin Williams married Valerie Velardi. Their marriage lasted until 1988 and together they had a son, Zachary Pym Williams.

In 1980, Robin Williams had his first lead role in the movie “Popeye”. In subsequent years, he had several roles not only in comedies and won the Golden Globe for his role in “Good Morning, Vietnam” (1987). His most famous movie remains “Dead Poets Society”, which became a source of inspiration for generations.

In 1989, Robin Williams married Marsha Garces Williams. Their marriage lasted until 2010. Together they had two children, Zelda Rae Williams and Cody Alan Williams.

Robin Williams played very different roles showing all his skills as an actor in movies ranging from “Awakenings” in 1990 to “Hook” in 1991, from “Toys” in 1992 to “Mrs. Doubtfire” in 1993.

For his role in the movie “Good Will Hunting” in 1997, Robin Williams received the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.

After being the protagonist of “Bicentennial Man” in 1999, a controversial adaptation of one of the most famous stories by Isaac Asimov, and “Jakob the Liar” in 1999, Robin Williams chose much darker roles. In “One Hour Photo” (2002) he plays an employee of a photo lab who becomes obsessed with a family of customers. In “Insomnia” (2002) he played a murderer. In “The Final Cut” (2004) he played a professional who edits the memories recorded by people after their death.

In 2011, Robin Williams married Susan Schneider.

In 2013, Robin Williams was back as the star of a TV show, “The Crazy Ones”, but it was canceled at the end of the first season.

Yesterday Robin Williams was found dead at his home in Tiburon, California. He suffered from depression, one of the reasons that suggest a suicide.
