René Auberjonois in 2013

The actor René Auberjonois passed away yesterday, December 8, 2019, due to lung cancer. René Murat Auberjonois was born on June 1, 1940 in New York, USA, to a family with a complex family tree whose ancestors included the royals of Naples Gioacchino Murat and Carolina Bonaparte, Napoleon’s younger sister.

René Auberjonois’ cinema career began with a couple of roles as an extra artist and then got his first major role in the 1970 movie “M*A*S*H” and work again with director Robert Altman in the movies “Brewster McCloud” (1970) and “McCabe & Mrs. Miller” (1971). On television he was a guest star on several TV shows during the 1970s but his first major role came when he joined the cast of the TV show “Benson” in its second season to stay there until its seventh and last season.

René Auberjonois joined the universe of Star Trek with a little role in the 1991 movie “Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country” but is really known for the role of shapeshifter Odo in the TV show “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine”.

In the last decade René Auberjonois played a regular character in the TV show “Boston Legal” and kept on being very active in productions of different types, also working as a narrator of documentaries. These activities continued into this decade as well, showing how eclectic he was.

Paul John McGann was born on November 14, 1959 in Liverpool, England. Paul McGann studied acting at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. He doesn’t come from a family of actors but his three brothers have become actors as well.

In 1996 the “Doctor Who” TV movie was released in which Paul McGann played the Eighth Doctor. It was a BBC co-production with Universal Studios and Fox Broadcasting Network which aimed to revive the famous show, which was canceled in 1989. The high ratings in Great Britain but low in the USA led to Fox’s giving up its option to start a new series. Despite this, it wasn’t the end of McGann’s experience linked to the saga.

Her father Sylvester Weaver was an NBC executive and her uncle Winstead Sheffield Glenndenning Dixon “Doodles” Weaver was an actor and a musician. She was a young girl when she started using the nickname Sigourney, after a character from the novel “The Great Gatsby”.

Sigourney Weaver proved through the years to be a versatile actress but many call her the science fiction queen for the successes she had in that genre and above all for the importance of her role as Ellen Ripley.

Alfred Joseph Hitchcock was born on August 13, 1899 in Leytonstone, Essex, England. The typical elements of Alfred Hitchcock’s work, from the creation of suspense to black humor, including his obsession with blondes and many other themes and mechanisms, have been the subject of in-depth analysis to understand the work process of a director who had a remarkable influence also beyond genre cinema.

Rutger Hauer in 2018

The news arrived that actor Rutger Hauer (photo ©DWDD) passed away on July 19. The news only reports that the death occurred at his home in Beetsterzwaag, Netherlands, after a brief illness and was made public immediately after his funeral, which was private. He’s survived by his wife Ineke and his daughter Aysha, born from a previous marriage.
