Euroleague

On October 16, 2013, the Euroleague 2013/2014 starts. Game 1 will start on Wednesday but in the following ones the games will be generally played on Thursday and Friday like in the last season.

Technically the Euroleague started at the end of Semptember with the qualifying rounds but only eight teams were involved for one berth in the regular season so inevitably the intererest was reduced.

The format was the same one introduced last year. The regular season is still a round-robin with 24 teams divided in 4 groups each playing 10 games. The best 4 teams of each group advance to the Top 16, where the best 16 teams are divided in 2 groups of 8 teams each and each team plays 14 games. The best 4 teams of each group advance to the quarter-finals which are played in best of 5 games series. The winners will play the Final Four.

This weekend London is hosting the basketball Euroleague 2012/2013 Final Four. On Friday, May 10 there will be the semifinals and on Sunday, May 12 there will be the Finals. The semifinals will be CSKA Moscow – Olympiacos Piraeus e Regal FC Barcelona – Real Madrid.

On Tuesday april 9 the basketball Euroleague 2012/2013 quarter-finals will start. This round will be played in a playoff series to the best of five games in which the teams qualified from each group will cross path the the ones qualified from the other group. With the new Top 16 format the first classified teams of each group will lay the fourth classified ones of the other group and the second classified ones of each group will play the third classified ones of the other group.

Thursday December 27, 2012 the basketball Euroleague 2012/2013 Top 16 is starting. In recent years, the Top 16 started around mid-January but this season the formula has been changed. In the new Top 16 there are only two groups of 8 teams each so there will be more games. This new structure with 4 teams for each group that will go to the quarter-finals will definitely change this second phase of the Euroleague.
