In the course of the match played yesterday between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Golden State Warriors, Kobe Bryant got injured seriously. The diagnosis is a torn Achilles tendon, an injury that requires from 8 to 12 months to come back. Today he should have an MRI to understand the severity of his injury.

With 3 minutes and 8 seconds left in the game, Kobe Bryant fell during a penetration. He tried to get up but immediately realized that he had a problem with his left heel. Nevertheless, having being fouled, he shot two free throws scoring them both but then left the court and went to the locker room for the first medical checks.

After the game, won by the Los Angeles Lakers 118-116, Kobe Bryant arrived at the press conference, where he told the terrible feeling experienced immediately after his injury. Despite the terrible diagnosis and the fact that he’s already 34 years old, Kobe has all the intentions to play again.

During this season everything bad happened to the Los Angeles Lakers, with many injuries, including serious ones, and even the death of their legendary owner Jerry Buss. The team is struggling with the Utah Jazz to win the last position useful to go to the playoffs. Kobe Bryant is no longer a kid but during this this season gave again memorable performances, including the 47 points scored a few days ago against the Portland Trail Blazers.

In hindsight it’s easy to say that Kobe Bryant was playing too many minutes but he was the first to want to take the greatest responsibility to bring the Los Angeles Lakers to the playoffs despite all the problems. Of course, they’d play the first playoffs round against the San Antonio Spurs or the Oklahoma City Thunder but the Lakers would’ve been ready to the difficult challenge if the players had been in good condition.

Now it’s clear that for both Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers the situation is completely changed. For Kobe it’s about working harder than ever just to be able to play again. For the Los Angeles Lakers it’s about finding a new balance, also with the prospect of playing the next season without Kobe.

It’s impossible to make predictions without a precise knowledge of the severity of the injury suffered by Kobe Bryant but we’re talking about a player who never accepts defeat and is always willing to give more to get back to winning. If anyone can come back at the highest level after an injury of that kind, that’s Kobe Bryant!
