On November 23, 2013 there will be the 50th anniversary of “Doctor Who”. To celebrate this important moment let’s go over the Doctor’s history again. This article remembers the Seventh Doctor.

Played by Sylvester McCoy, the Seventh Doctor initially suffers from amnesia because the Tardis was attacked by the Rani, a renegade Time Lady, who drugs him immediately after the Sixth Doctor has regenerated. Although he recovers, his personality takes time to form in a definitive manner, so much that he goes through big changes during a rather long period.

Initially, the Seventh Doctor has a comedic attitude but it’s ax expedient to deceive his enemies, who in this way tend to underestimate him. Over time, the whimsical aspects of his personality gradually give space to his manipulator side.

After some time spent traveling with Melanie Bush, the Seventh Doctor meets Ace, a girl transported to another place and another time by a strange vortex. It’s traveling with her that the Doctor also shows a dark side. Their every trip has a purpose and conceals long-term plans and the clashes with his enemies are sometimes part of conflicts that have been going on for a long time.

The Seventh Doctor’s manipulations also concern Ace, as he tells her only the information he deems necessary for his purposes. In the course of their travels, Ace is forced to face in various ways the demons of her past. The cancellation of the show put an end to that story arc and, like for his predecessor, novels, comic books and audio adventures have started filling the vast gap between that moment and his regeneration.

Thanks to those media many other adventures of the Seventh Doctor and Ace have been told. In some cases, they traveled together with a girl named Raine Creevy, for a longer period together with Hex, a boy whose origins hide a secret that the Doctor knows but doesn’t tell him. In the TV show, the Doctor had already faced some of the elder gods, he does it again in the audio adventures along with Ace and Hex.

In an audio adventure, the Seventh Doctor and Ace meet Elizabeth Klein, a Nazi scientist from an alternate timeline inadvertently created. At the end of the timeline is brought back to its original course but Klein survives traveling in the Tardis. Some time later the Doctor meets her again and the two of them travel together.

In the course of his adventures, the Seventh Doctor clashes again with the Master. In the TV movie his old enemy was apparently killed by the Daleks and asked the Doctor to bring his remains to Gallifrey. It’s one of the Master’s plans, which ends up bringing the Tardis off course and the end of the Seventh Doctor era.
