Yesterday the British-born then become American actor Patrick Macnee passed away. The announcement came from his son Rupert, who confirmed that his father died at his home in Rancho Mirage, California. The actor had been living in the USA for about 40 years.

Born on February 6, 1922, Patrick Macnee studied acting at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art but actually become an actor only after World War II. A little over three years ago I wrote an article about him on the occasion of his 90th birthday and it contains some information about his long career.

Inevitably Patrick Macnee’s name is mainly related to the TV show “The Avengers“, which became a cult show that after more than 50 years since its beginning still has many fans in the world. In 2014, in an interview to the magazine “The Lady”, the actor stated that the series had been a success because it “did something different and did it better”. Macnee thought that “It was beautifully written, the ideas were very good, way ahead of their time and they incorporated fantasies for people who dreamed of doing exciting things.”

The screenplays for “The Avengers” were developed with great class and even in some cases where the plots were honestly a bit weird the result had still quality. This spy story show that sometimes added science fiction elements and always contained a lot of humor was really unique.

All of that was crucial but Patrick Macnee’s contribution was instrumental in the success of “The Avengers”. The actor, who personally took care of his clothes, had become the quintessential English gentleman. It’s mainly because of his style that he became famous and will keep on being remembered.
