“The Giggle” is the third 2023 special episode in the TV show “Doctor Who” that celebrates its 60th anniversary and follows “Wild Blue Yonder”. It’s available in the UK and Ireland on BBC channels and in many other countries on the Disney+ platform.

The Fourteenth Doctor (David Tennant) brought Donna Noble (Catherine Tate) back home but the travelers find a situation that seems absurd with people apparently going mad. They’re found by UNIT and Kate Stewart (Jemma Redgrave) explains the strange events. Thanks to the analysis of the information he’s provided, also by Mel Bush (Bonnie Langford), the Doctor finds a secret message transmitted by all the electronic screens in the world and understands that his enemy is the Toymaker (Neil Patrick Harris).

The Calculating Stars by Mary Robinette Kowal

The novel “The Calculating Stars” by Mary Robinette Kowal was published for the first time in 2018. It’s the first novel in the Lady Astronaut series. It won the Hugo, Nebula, and Locus Awards as the Best Science Fiction Novel of the Year and the Sidewise Award for Alternate History Novel of the Year.

In 1952, a meteorite hits the Earth in the Chesapeake Bay. The short-term consequence is the destruction of Washington D.C. and most of the east coast of the USA. In subsequent years, temperatures drop but scientists’ calculations indicate that the heat absorbed by the water will be released over the years causing strong and rapid global warming.

The International Aerospace Coalition is formed to develop a space program capable of colonizing the Moon and reaching Mars. Elma York was a pilot in the Women Airforce Service Pilots during World War II but the newly formed astronaut corps accepts only men and they’re all white.

Following the damage caused by Donna Noble (Catherine Tate), the Tardis goes out of control. After ending up in 1666 England, the Fourteenth Doctor (David Tennant) manages to restart it until it arrives in what appears to be a huge spaceship, where its interior explodes. While the travelers look around, the Tardis sets off again. Despite the gravity of the situation, the Doctor promises Donna to bring her home.
