The novel “Ghosts” by Mark Dawson was published for the first time in 2014. It’s the fourth book in the John Milton series and follows “The Driver”.

In Texas, John Milton gets into trouble when he decides to intervene with a pair of bullies, one of whom turns out to be the local sheriff’s son. He knows he has very little time to escape from the prison where he’s been held before his former colleagues come for him, and is surprised when he ends up in the custody of an FBI agent instead.

When the two of them leave, the woman reveals that she’s actually a Russian intelligence agent and knows John Milton’s real identity. Her Russian superiors want him to do some work for them, and, in exchange, offer him the life of Captain Michael Pope, a man who saved John’s life and is now a Russian prisoner. To save Pope, John must find Beatrix Rose, who used to be Number One in Group Fifteen years earlier, until Control betrayed her.

Invasion Earth by Don Vodka

The novel “Invasion Earth” by Don Vodka was published for the first time in 2021 and with a new, expanded and illustrated edition in 2025.

Ross Shelton is in the Nevada desert when he sees a strange, clearly artificial object. Nearby, he discovers a woman wandering in the desert, seemingly lost. When he rescues her, he discovers she doesn’t speak a word of English and appears to be in a state of confusion. He takes her to the local doctor, who finds her in perfect health, in a way that would be impossible even for a woman who hasn’t been in the desert for who knows how long.

Intrigued but also attracted to the woman, Ross offers to help her and gradually manages to communicate with her, as she seems to be learning new words at a remarkable speed. This isn’t the only extraordinary ability she demonstrates, as she reveals superhuman physical prowess. Once she learns enough English to communicate complex concepts, she explains that she has come from another planet to warn Earthlings that aliens are heading for Earth and intend to literally devour humans.

The novel “Transit” by Ben Aaronovitch was published for the first time in 1992. It’s No. 10 in the “New Adventures” range by Virgin Publishing and follows “Love and War”.

The Tardis materializes in King’s Cross Station, where an unknown entity has killed several people. Kadiatu is saved by the arrival of the Seventh Doctor, and the two of them, along with Bernice Summerfield, end up in another station.

Kadiatu is conducting experiments in time travel and becomes interested in the Doctor and his intervention. She decides to take him to a veteran of the war with the Ice Warriors. Bernice ends up on Pluto, where she uses the people who live in the slums for unfathomable purposes.

Veg-humans by Clelia Farris

The novel “Veg-humans” (“I Vegumani”) by Clelia Farris was published for the first time in 2022. It was translated into English by Rachel Cordasco.

For the agricultural cooperative Astarte, every day is a challenge to produce something despite the very difficult climate conditions. Many people emigrate to the Arctic, where the climate is mild, and it’s still possible to practice agriculture as previous generations did, but others don’t want to leave their homeland.

Experts promise rain, which would greatly help the Astarte partners, but not everyone believes their predictions. Gazania works on a sunscreen that might help workers stay outdoors longer, but discovers that one person who used it has literally taken root.

Assault by D. Rebbitt

The novel “Assault” by D. Rebbitt was published for the first time in 2021. It’s the sixth book in The Globur Incursion series and follows “Sword”.

When a Globur fleet attacks the Mongolia system, the nearest Imperial task force reaches it only after the attack has already begun, and it faces an overwhelming enemy. The planet Khan is invaded by the aliens, and the survivors of the task force must retreat to avoid annihilation.

The Imperial Fleet leadership intends to adopt a defensive strategy, waiting for new starships and weapons to be delivered, allowing for greater effectiveness in the battles against the Globur. However, the Imperial Senate recommends an attack to retake the Mongolia system. In theory, the Senate has no power over military strategy, but the hostility already existing in the politicians supporting the motion would cause major problems if the recommendation weren’t heeded.
