The geographical location of Bianfu Cave and the morphology of the two teeth and three bones examined in this study.

An article published in the journal “Nature” reports the results of a proteomic analysis that led to the identification of fossils attributed to the hominin species known as the Denisovans. A team of researchers studied over 60,000 bone fragments found in Bianfu Cave in China’s Yunnan Province, identifying three Denisovan bones and four teeth dating between 167,000 and 134,000 years ago. Few Denisovan bones have been identified so far, so every new discovery expands our knowledge of this branch of humanity. The study also unearthed more than 1,360 stone artifacts dating from 190,000 to 70,000 years ago, which will help shed light on at least one Denisovan culture.
