Jim Morrison received a posthumous pardon concerning a charge for indecent exposure dating from 1969. The initiative started from Florida Governor Charlie Crist in 2007, later it was officially submitted to the state Board of Executive Clemency and yesterday it was voted in favor.

On March 1, 1969 the Doors gave a concert in Miami. Jim Morrison arrived late at the Dinner Key Auditorium and he was already drunk after spending the day drinking. According to witnesses that was more an exhibition of profanities by Morrison than a concert but there are disagreements about the fact that at the certain point he actually pulled down his pants showing more instruments than the ones intended for the concert 😉 as someone claims he did it while others claim the opposite.

A few days later a warrant for Jim Morrison’s arrest for indecent exposure was issued. The news caused various concerts already scheduled to be canceled. Morrison was tried and sentenced to six months though he never went to jail. He appealed and moved to Paris where he died before the new trial so officially the issue of his guilt reamined stuck.

Jim Morrison’s widow claims that the charge and the trial were a publicity stunt while others claim that there were political reasons to attack Jim Morrison. Doors fans petitioned various times Florida Governors to obtain a pardon for their idol, now Governor Charlie Crist gave them satisfaction.

After so many years this is a closure for an event in the life of a man who’s very controversial, nevertheless he’s still loved by millions around the world almost fourty years after his death.
