Rafael Nadal reached the final remaining undefeated in the round robin, where he defeated David Ferrer, Stanislas Wawrinka and Tomas Berdych. In the semifinal he defeated Roger Federer. He’s at his second final in this tournament.
At the beginning Novak Djokovic finds greater depth in his shots than Rafael Nadal and in the second game breaks him. The Spaniard struggles to find the right measure of his shots and in the fourth game offers the Serb a break point but manages to win his service game. After a great start, suddenly the Serb starts making some mistakes and in the fifth game the Spaniard breaks him. Nadal plays better but Djokovic raises his level again and in the eighth game breaks his opponent again and then close the first set 6-3.
In the second set, Novak Djokovic returns very well in the third game breaks Rafael Nadal. The Spaniard tries to fight back with pride but struggles, in the seventh game offers the Serb two more break points but manages to win his service game. In the ninth game Djokovic has a match point but Nadal still wins his service game. The Serbian party is only postponed because in the next game Djokovic wins the second set 6-4 to conquer the match and confirm he’s the Master of tennis.
Rafael Nadal played an incomplete season because of his physical problems. He hoped he could arrive to the ATP Finals with enough energy to win the title but again it didn’t went well. It was still an amazing season in which he returned to be the no. 1 in the world ranking. If he finally schedules his season thinking about the quality and not the quantity he’ll have more chances to win this tournament.
After the U.S. Open, Novak Djokovic has lost no matches. He lost the first position in the world rankings but confirming his title at the ATP Finals, especially by defeating Nadal in the final, he already challenged the Spaniard for the next year.
