David William Duchovny (photo ©Gage Skidmore) was born on August 7, 1960 in New York, USA.

When he went to school, David Duchovny started writing both literature and poetry, and for this interest he earned an A.B. in English literature from Princeton University and a master of arts in the same subject from Yale University. He was working on his doctorate, but stopped studying literature to devote himself to acting. His acting career began on Broadway and in commercials in the late 1980s.

David Duchovny started finding important roles in the early 1990s, for example in some episodes of the TV show “Twin Peaks” and in the 1993 movie “Kalifornia”. Between 1992 and 1997 he was the host in the TV show “Red Shoe Diaries”.

In 1993, David Duchovny became a big hit when he started playing Special Agent Fox Mulder in the the TV show “The X-Files“. Despite the popularity, his relationship with the show hasn’t always been easy. For example, the actor was at the center of a controversy when it was discovered that he was the main reason for moving the shooting from Vancouver to Los Angeles. In the show’s eighth season, his character disappeared due to a contract dispute. He was also the protagonist of the movie “The X-Files: Fight the Future” (1998) and reprised his role in the series finale, in the movie “The X-Files: I Want to Believe” (2008) and the two seasons of the revival between 2016 and 2018.

In those years, David Duchovny also had important roles in movies such as “Evolution” (2001), “Zoolander” (2001), and “Full Frontal” (2002). However, his career had its peaks on television, also with the TV shows “Californication”, which aired between 2007 and 2014, and “Aquarius”, which aired between 2015 and 2016. Duchovny also worked as executive producer on both shows.

David Duchovny was married between 1997 and 2014 to actress Téa Leoni, with whom he had two children.

Recently, David Duchovny’s acting activity has slowed down, also because in recent years he has devoted a lot to music. In 2015 he released the album “Hell or Highwater”, in 2018 the album “Every Third Thought”, and the third one is scheduled for the coming months. He also published some books: “Holy Cow: A Modern-Day Dairy Tale” in 2016, “Bucky F*cking Dent” in 2016 and “Miss Subways: A Novel” in 2018. Indeed, he keeps busy!

  1. Happy Birthday David Duchovny
    .
While at Yale David earned a degree
In the arts, while aspiring to be
    A great actor one day
Like Glenn Ford and Faye Wray
    Each an Oscar Award nominee
    .
    In ‘Working Girl’ David premiered
In his movie debut, then appeared
    On the idiot box
As a man known as Fox
    Whose demeanor was charmingly weird
    .
On ‘The X-Files’ he charmed us to bits
Winning many a battle of wits
In his job as a sleuth
    While exposing the truth
That conspirators work in our midst
    .
On the silvery screen later on
He played Mulder again, who was drawn
    To a secret cabal
    With enough wherewithal
To destroy all mankind before long
    .
Dana Scully, his partner in crime
Was a hot looking babe in the prime
Of her life as she traveled
    With Fox and unraveled
Dark mysteries where light didn’t shine
    .
In two thousand and eight David checked
Himself in to a clinic to get
    Help controlling his yen
To have sex nine or ten
Times a week with each woman he met
    .
    Nowadays he is sparingly seen
On TV or the silvery screen
    Having faded from sight
    From the glamor and hype
    Of the Hollywood bullshit machine

So let’s wish Happy Birthday to Dave
Who arrived when the hula-hoop craze
    And a young JFK
    From New York to L.A.
Caught our fancies in various ways
