Novak Djokovic (photo ©Spekoek) reached the final remaining undefeated in the round robit, where he defeated Andy Murray, Tomas Berdych and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. In the semifinals he defeated Juan Martin del Potro. He lost a total of two sets, one to Murray and one to del Potro. He already won the title in 2008.

Roger Federer reached the final losing a match in the round robit to Juan Martin del Potro while he defeated David Ferrer and Janko Tipsarevic. In the semifinals he defeated Andy Murray. He lost a total of two sets in his loss to del Potro. He already won the title five times and is the champion of the last two editions.

Roger Federer has a sprint start and breaks Novak Djokovic in the second game. The Serb gets into the match, gains more and more confidence and in the fifth game breaks the Swiss. The intensity rises but in some games Federer doesn’t erve very well and in the ninth game Djokovic breaks him again, serves for the set but gets broken back. The set is decided by a tie-break that’s very balanced and Djokovic wins it 8-6.

In the second set, Roger Federer already in the first game breaks Novak Djokovic at the end of a long and tough game. In the fifth game, the Swiss has another break point but the Serb wins his service game. In the eighth game Djokovic is the one who has a break point but Federer wins his service game. In the tenth game the Swiss servs for the set, has even two set points but loes his service. In the twelfth game Djokovic breaks Federer again and wins the set 7-5 to conquer match and title.

Roger Federer won’t be happy with this defeat but this year he won another Grand Slam title and for a few weeks was again number 1 in the world ranking so he can consider the season in a positive way. Next year he can schedule his season again playing the tournaments he’s interested in to try to get a few more prestigious victory.

Novak Djokovic couldn’t replicate his extraordinary 2011 but last year he suffered an injury at the U.S. Open and ended the season badly. This year he arrived at the ATP Finals still having energy and won the tournament. He probably found the right schedule for his season and next year he’ll fight to remain the number 1 in the world ranking.
