Internet

About two weeks ago the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) Chairman Tom Wheeler stated that soon new rules will be proposed that might allow Internet services providers to demand payments to avoid filters on competitors’ traffic. This could disrupt the Internet with higher costs for users. In response, more than one hundred technology companies sent a joint letter to the FCC asking to protect net neutrality.

In January 2014, net neutrality was rejected by the Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, which ruled that the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) hasn’t the authority to prohibit Internet service providers to block or even slow down web traffic and applications in a selective manner. Now the FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler stated that new rules will be proposed that, however, could disrupt the Internet with higher costs for users.

Mozilla Foundation announced that it has appointed Chris Beard as its interim Chief Executive Officer, waiting to find a person who can take the position permanently after Brendan Eich’s resignation. Beard also joins the Foundation’s board of directors.

Only 10 days after his appointment, Brendan Eich (Photo ©Darcy Padilla) has resigned as CEO of the Mozilla Foundation. His decision came as a result of the open accusations of homophobia against him, with the resignation of three of the six members of the board of directors and various threats and calls for boycotts against Mozilla products, starting with the Firefox browser.
