Patrick Stewart (photo ©Gage Skidmore) was born on July 13, 1940, in Mirfield, West Riding, Yorkshire, England.
The first experiences with acting came for Patrick Stewart when he was still a child, and from there he started studying acting. During his teen years, he worked for a while as a journalist, but was forced to choose between the two careers and decided to be an actor.
In 1966 Patrick Stewart became a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company and for years his career developed mainly on stage. He also started finding roles in television and cinema productions, but nothing that could give him fame.
Patrick Stewart agreed to work in American productions for purely economic reasons. This allowed him to be noticed and picked to play Jean-Luc Picard in the TV show “Star Trek: The Next Generation“. At the time there was skepticism about the possibility of modernizing the Star Trek saga and the actor expected to return to England after one season. In the end, the show lasted seven seasons, Stewart also participated in some movies connected to the saga and lent his voice to some video games connected to the show.
It became impossible for Patrick Stewart to return to his previous career after the fame gained thanks to Star Trek, and this made it difficult to find other roles. In some cases, he lent his voice to characters from animated movies and TV shows such as “The Prince of Egypt” (1998), “American Dad!” and others, or to animals like the pig Napoleon in an adaptation of “Animal Farm” (1999). However, he got the role of Professor Charles Xavier in the 2000 film “X-Men”, the first of a movie series.
Over the years, Patrick Stewart managed to get roles in other productions, often as a guest star, sometimes as a protagonist such as in the mini-series “Eleventh Hour” (2006) and in the sitcom “Blunt Talk” (2015/2016), in other cases as narrator, and this includes several documentaries.
Patrick Stewart has never stopped acting on stage, and during the years in which he worked in the USA he also participated in some Broadway productions. In some cases he also worked with Ian McKellen, with whom he became friends while working with him in the X-Men saga.
Throughout his life, Patrick Stewart got married three times and had a total of two children. His son Daniel also became an actor. For his acting activity, Patrick Stewart has received various awards and honors. Not only has he not stopped working, but he recently reprised the role of Jean-Luc Picard in the TV show “Star Trek: Picard“. This role gave him international fame, but the actor helped to shape him and is continuing to influence his evolution.
