“Forget Me Not” is the 4th episode of the 3rd season of the TV show “Star Trek: Discovery” and follows “People of Earth“.

Note. This article contains spoilers about “Forget Me Not”.

The memory of Adira (Blu del Barrio) is very fragmented and the only hope to unlock it seems in the Trills. The USS Discovery travels to planet Trill, where the welcome is initially good, at least until they find out who the host is. Saru (Doug Jones) tries to help the crew deal with stress with the help of Dr. Hugh Culber (Wilson Cruz), but it’s a difficult situation.

The trip to Trill takes Star Trek fans back to a culture that has been explored multiple times in “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine” thanks to various Dax-related storylines. That offers a great sense of familiarity in this episode, also in the conservative tendencies existing in the Trills.

The story of the Tal symbiont is developed without great surprises, but from the visual and the narrative pacing points of view it seemed to me well constructed. This allows the audience to form a bond with the character while relevant moments in her story are shown.

In the previous episodes, various moments of several USS Discovery crew members’ tasks were also shown, with the problems emerging after arriving in the 32nd century. Saru’s attempt to help them, with other, unpredicted, problems, seemed much better to me because it gives them much greater depth than the sometimes silly jokes heard in the second episode. The development even applies to the USS Discovery’s computer.

Somehow, the USS Discovery crew are really beginning to deal with the journey into the unknown that cut everyone out of their time. Somehow, they’re dealing with their problems, as Adira dealt with hers, including certain tensions.

In the end, “Forget Me Not” doesn’t have a groundbreaking plot and doesn’t lead to leaps forward in this season’s story-arc, but it does have the merit of offering a development in which even Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) seems emotionally balanced. Together with a return to a planet known to Star Trek fans, that makes it a good episode for me.
